– Identify the risks and benefits of engaging with a public audience in a media space– what are the risks for a public figure or person in a position of trust (educator, lawyer, government official)?
On the Internet, when you put forward a point of view, there are many different voices, because people are fair on social media platforms. So they will hear a lot of opinions, rather than suggestions. Regarding people’s general meetings, more or less personal information is left, which can easily lead to the substitution of information. I think this is the risk of interaction. The interview pointed out that social media has largely replaced traditional media. Especially for public figures, faster dissemination of information is not a good way. Especially for different viewpoints, it is easy to produce contradictions. Martin Hirst emphasizes “the responsibility that individuals should take when consuming the massive amounts of media we encounter on a daily basis”. For journalists, every word they say will reduce stress, and it seems to be a good way to make their opinions more rigorous.
– How do notable individuals use social media?
I think celebrities should be more cautious in using social media than ordinary people. First, celebrities have greater influence, and every word they say may become a social guide. Second, celebrities should pay more attention to the protection of personal privacy. The current Internet is very developed, you can search for some private messages through various picture information, and every piece of content they publish will remain on the Internet and cannot be completely deleted.
– What are the benefits of being in the public eye and having a PLN?
PLN is a good platform with unlimited resources. The public paying attention to PLN can get most of the information they want, and they can also share it on it. As a public platform, PLN reflects information equivalence to a large extent.
– Building community with online tools provided by the employer can be limiting, what are the perceived restrictions and benefits?
At present, many companies will establish their own internal social networking sites. During my internship, there was a company that could only use its own internal software to transfer files, communicate between employees, and conduct some work-related processes. First, this method better protects the company’s information and guarantees information security to a greater extent. The whereabouts of each file become very clear. Second, this restriction can better improve work efficiency. It can better organize employees to communicate because this type of website is often simpler in design and more operability. But on the other hand, this cannot completely avoid communication between employees through other social media.
– Delivering information in a connected society requires verifiable resources, how to build a PLN to rely on?
First, if you want to build a trustworthy PLN, you have to start with the initial follower verification. Upon receipt of each follower’s application, a strict review should be carried out. Second, a rule should be established. When everyone publishes their speech, they should be shared in accordance with the regulations mentioned in the rule. Third, you should pay attention to the content of each post in a timely manner. If there is any comment that does not follow the rules, you can ask him to delete the post.
– How do those, who are veteran storytellers, minimize risk in sharing misinformation?
The speed of social media dissemination of information is very fast, so you should fully confirm multiple times before sharing information. And you can open comments to collect correct information from more angles. But it’s not because you are afraid of facing the risks of misinformation without sharing.
